The Quiet

After the werewolf night,
the dense wind howling with the full moon,
limbs, dead and alive, torn from their trunk
and roots uprooted and lying abed,
the three towering hemlocks
have spared our home
with their preposterous reaching
above the understory.
Not to speak of love.
