Moss Memories

by Julie A. Dickson

Cold metal, curved back bench,

wood with damp growth,

green lichen covers the seat

where couples sat holding hands,

children stood and jumped off.

Moss takes residence now,

where derelicts, society’s detritus

once slept, in lieu of a bed.
