THANK YOU TO DENI DICKLER

Monadnock Writers’ Group and the Smoky Quartz team offer our sincere gratitude to Deni Dickler, who concluded her run as editor with us after the publication of the Spring 2024 issue.

Deni joined the editorial team in 2019 and helped edit our online issues and the special print edition of the journal, the Smoky Quartz Tenth Anniversary Anthology.

We are thankful to Deni for her many years of editorial work and leadership, and for her dedication to promoting and supporting writers and artists.

We wish her well in all of her future endeavors.

Spring 2024 Issue

“There are moments in your life when you know that the sentence that will come next will change your life forever, although you realize, even as you are anticipating this sentence, that your life has already changed.”
— Anita Shreve, American Novelist, 1946-2018 (Newfields, NH)

The Smoky Quartz Spring 2024 issue brims with creative work for you to anticipate: from poems of old age, youth, silence, and noise, to stories of love, loss, and unfamiliar realities, to artwork both vibrant and subdued. Perhaps a word, a phrase or an image will resonate, transform your thoughts, and change your life forever.

The current issue of Smoky Quartz includes twenty-three poems, three short stories, and twenty-five pieces of art. Many of the writers and artists are those you have enjoyed in earlier issues including, writers Alexis Groulx, Cynthia Knorr, and Mary Ann Mayer, and artists Barbara Danser, Rebecca K. Brown, and Alison Deland Scott. They are joined by many new outstanding writers and artists appearing in Smoky Quartz for the first time.

The Editors thank the diverse group of talented people who submitted a total of over 350 pieces of writing and art for consideration. We are grateful for having had the opportunity to read and view their high-quality works. Deciding which pieces to include  was difficult. In the end we had to pass on many excellent submissions.

We encourage everyone to submit work to future issues of Smoky Quartz. Follow this News page or sign up to receive announcements and submission deadlines for upcoming issues.

We hope you will anticipate and enjoy the abundant creativity within the Smoky Quartz Spring 2024 issue.
