Mt. Monadnock—
with its blue, scarred body
barnacled with cloud,
its white-dotted rocks
like fluke markings
or a constellation
that fills in the darkness
with a story—
rises above its shadow
in my childhood
pond, Leviathan
of the sky.
Kate Gleason is the author of a full-length collection of poetry, Measuring the Dark and two chapbooks of poetry.
